“Sex and the City”
Opens: Friday, May 30th, 2008
Director: Michael Patrick King
MPAA: R
Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Christopher Noth, Jennifer Hudson

In true Carrie style, I sit in front of my apple computer in my knickers to give you the details on “Sex and the City” the movie. I felt lucky to have been able to catch a sold-out pre-screening tonight (Thursday) at 7:30pm. I did however have to count the cost because the season finale of “Lost” aired tonight. Well, I have to say that not all was “Lost”. I thoroughly enjoyed “Sex and the City” the movie!
“Sex and the City” begins with one of Carrie’s famous monologues that brings us up to date on the lives of our four women. As follows:
The final season of “Sex and the City” (TV) left us with Carrie in Paris with her Russian lover, Aleksandr. Just when we thought this New Yorker was going to leave the Big Apple for good, Mr. Big sweeps in and brings her home. We learn Mr. Big’s real name is John James Preston. His gallant act confirms his feelings for Carrie and this is where “Sex and the City” the movie picks up.
In the last season, Charlotte marries her divorce attorney and goes through an adoption of a daughter from China. During the course of the movie, Charlotte is able to conceive. This is a wonderful thing since Charlotte has gone through tough times with fertility methods. She has one of the funnier mishaps in the movie which the fan next to me missed out on because she had to run to the bathroom….the irony. (note…the movie is 2.5hrs. long so, watch your soda intake)

Miranda & Steve are married and are raising their little boy, Brady, out in Brooklyn. Miranda & Steve’s relationship is a bit rocky because of a period of sexual abstinence. Steve confesses to an affair and this sends Miranda down the long road of anger and mistrust. One of the over-arching themes of this movie is “Forgiveness.” Miranda’s drama has an impact on all those around her and ultimately aids in the wedding fiasco half-way through the film.
Samantha is West coast lovin in the movie. She and her boyfriend Smith are living it up in California. Samantha’s relationship with Smith is a stretch for her….monogamy (gasp!). We start to feel she has a heart, but it’s Samantha. She has a lustful heart and is tempted back to her old ways due to the over-exposed (really over exposed…for a split second) neighbor.

Now back to Carrie & Big! They are finally engaged after 10yrs. She is truly in love! Carrie is also excited to embark on her less financially & spatially strapped future. She dreams of bigger closets filled with designer shoes. Her wedding plans are big! The ceremony is planned to take place at the New York Public Library, but as we all know things go horribly wrong for both Big & Carrie.
All the girls head to Mexico on what would have been Big’s and Carrie’s Honeymoon. This is a really heart wrenching part of the movie. We see Carrie at her worst and it feels as real as it gets. To help the audience and Carrie out of this depression there is the unwaxed Miranda and “run for the bathroom” Charlotte.
Now through out the last couple of seasons, Carrie’s career has taken off. No Longer is she just writing the column for The New York Star. She has had several gigs for fashion mags and a book tour. This is where the need for a top notch (Oscar winning) personal assistant comes in the form of Louise (Jennifer Hudson). However, Louise’s main job is to help Carrie rebuild the old single life she had once known. After being jilted, Carrie has a ton of things to sort out….literally.
Louise gives occasion for Carrie to reflect upon her younger years and the hope she once held in “Love.”
If you think I gave too much away then just wait. This could be the Chick Flick to end all Chick Flicks! “Sex and the City” is a charmer and has that movie magic that TV viewers had sensed all along. “Sex and the City” fans won’t be disappointed. This movie has you laughing, crying & gasping to the very end and doesn’t leave any room for a “Sex and the City II.”
Enjoy!

The “Sex and the City” girls are all over the place these days, which includes Sarah Jessica Parker in this Sunday’s edition of “Parade”.
Sarah Jessica talks politics, family, and of course her new movie. She explains how Carrie, Miranda, Samantha & Charlotte are more mature now and dealing with their problems differently then in the past. She also dodges the question of whether or not Carrie is expecting in the movie.
The article is less “Sex and the City” and more about Sarah Jessica’s family life, which is nice.
