“My Big Fat Greek Wedding” A Greek Chick Flick!
Network:TBS Friday Jan. 4th@ 9pm, Sat. Jan. 5th@12:45pm
Director:Joel Zwick
MPAA Rated:PG
Starring:Nia Vardalos, John Corbett
Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) is a young, single Greek woman from Chicago who longs for anything but the ordinary day-to-day life in her parent’s Greek restaurant. With constant pressure from her parents, relatives and peers Toula feels her life will not be complete unless she meets their expectations-1.) Get Married 2.) Get married to a nice Greek boy!
Toula in an attempt to break out of the monotony enrolls in college. She soon meets and charms a non-Greek man, Ian Miller (John Corbett). An Engagement follows, prenuptial chaos ensues .
This film is a true ugly duckling story. We watch Toula transform throughout the movie both physically and emotionally. This movie is so funny too! The Greek wedding is over the top *Gaudy* to say the least but charming. It is wonderful to see a wedding that isn’t so stuffy and the guest are having a blast.
This movie not only starred Nia Vardalos but was also written by the star. The movie was also produced by power-couple Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson.
Enjoy this wonderful Greek Bridal Chick Flick!

MPAA Rating:PG-13(TV) Originally rated R
Starring: Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate, Selma Blair
Cameron Diaz plays Christina a young, free woman with a very guarded heart. She dates like a man and is enjoying herself. But one night at a trendy nightclub Christina meets her match, Peter. Peter is in town(SanFran) for only one night and gives christina his number. Christina not wanting to admit her interest decides not to call and spends the rest of the movie in self-reflection. Determined to see her best friend happy, Courtney(Applegate) takes Christina on a road trip to Peter’s hometown in search of the man of her dreams.
I have a love -hate relationship with this movie. On the one hand, I love a movie with girl bonding, road trips, missed opportunities, and cute men. However, I have never like the vulgarity of this movie. I have seen the theatrical version and it is pretty bad. The edited for tv version is a little better.
I read recently that this movie is based on writer’s Nancy Pimental friendship with Kate Walsh. Yep, Kate Walsh who plays Dr. Addison Montgomery on Gray’s Anatomy. I am assumming if this is true that Kate is the character of Christina played by Cameron Diaz. Pretty interesting tid-bit there. Who knew Chick Flicks were really based on true-life!
