Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) is a young, single Greek woman from Chicago who longs for anything but the ordinary day-to-day life in her parent’s Greek restaurant. With constant pressure from her parents, relatives and peers Toula feels her life will not be complete unless she meets their expectations-1.) Get Married 2.) Get married to a nice Greek boy!
Toula in an attempt to break out of the monotony enrolls in college. She soon meets and charms a non-Greek man, Ian Miller (John Corbett). An Engagement follows, prenuptial chaos ensues .

This film is a true ugly duckling story. We watch Toula transform throughout the movie both physically and emotionally. This movie is so funny too! The Greek wedding is over the top *Gaudy* to say the least but charming. It is wonderful to see a wedding that isn’t so stuffy and the guest are having a blast.
This movie not only starred Nia Vardalos but was also written by the star. The movie was also produced by power-couple Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson.
